Manual Title :
Air Force Continuing Airworthiness Manual (AFCAMAN)
Book Title :
Book IV - Performance of Maintenance
Chapter Title :
Chapter 13 - Ground Running of Engines and APUs
Paragraph :
Documentation Requirements Paragraph 1.8
Summary of deficiency, proposed amendment and justification :
1. Camm2 has been updated to be more compliant with DASR, with this change, first level certification was changed to Task Sign-Off (TSO), with the second level certification changed to Error Capture (EC). Reference B has only partially been changed to reflect this, with the reference to second level certification still used. 2. Justification. This change has the flow on effect of requiring all APU & Aircraft Ground runners to have EC added to their Camm2 profile, thereby removing a barrier to inadvertent EC certification. 3. Proposed Ammendment: 4. On identification of the requirement for an Engine/APU Ground Run; a. First Defect – Top U/S, ‘Engine/APU Ground Run required for (reason and SNOW).’ Admin task. Certification level TSO. b. Second Defect – Top U/S, ‘Aircraft to be accepted for Engine/APU ground run refer SNOW (First Defect SNOW).’ Non admin task. Certification level TSO, MAML level N/A. c. Third Defect – Sub-U/S to Second Defect, ‘Maintenance documentation to be assessed for ground run refer SNOW (First Defect SNOW).’ Non admin task, Certification level TSO, MAML level N/A. d. If Required Fourth Defect – Top U/S, ‘Assessment of Ground Run results TBCO ref SNOW (First Defect SNOW).’ Non admin task. Certification level TSO, MAML level B1.3/B2. 5. Maintenance Action Remarks; a. Third Defect – The maintenance action for the third defect is to state ‘Maintenance documentation assessed, aircraft is capable of being ground run and ground runner briefed'. MM then certifies Task Sign-Off. (1) This certification attests that all open entries, a maintenance forecast and build check report (or equivalent) has been assessed, tool control is ensured, aircraft is in a suitable and safe state to be ground run and the engine ground runner has been briefed. b. Second Defect – The maintenance action for the second defect Top U/S is then entered to state ‘Aircraft accepted’. Ground runner (Pilot) then certifies Task Sign-off. (1) This certification attests that the ground runner has been briefed of the reasons for the ground run, is aware of any defects and agrees that the aircraft is in a suitable and safe state to be ground run. On endorsement the aircraft is considered under the ground runner’s charge. 6. On completion of the ground run, the maintenance action for the first defect is to be completed by and certified by the ground runner a. The corrective action is to state defect ‘Ground run completed in accordance with AAP 7210.026-1’. Ground runner (Pilot) then certifies Task Sign-off. (1) This endorsement closes the defect for the specific engine ground run requirement and releases the aircraft from the ground runner’s charge. 7. If required, fourth defect corrective action is to state the results of the assessment, and any further defects raised as required.
